Columbus, Ohio

Ohio’s capital and largest city, Columbus is located almost exactly in the center of the state. Columbus saw a sharp population increase in 1831 when the National Road reached it from Cumberland, Maryland, and ultimately extended to Illinois. Immigrants were mostly Irish and German. Today, German Village and the Brewery District are historic areas in the 223-acre neighborhood where public tours take visitors through cottages and Queen Anne Victorian homes. Another historic landmark is the North Market, a culinary smorgasbord of prepared foods including sushi and pad thai, bratwurst, pizza, salsa, and more, with a seasonal open-air farmers market selling produce, cheese, honey, and herbs.

About me:
I was born in Columbus, Ohio and have recently returned after spending most of the last 30 years in the country. My heritage is Appalachian and German, with a large extended family. I have some experience at cooking for large groups and still keep the old family favorites in my arsenal. I mostly cook for two now but often end up with lots of leftovers!

Strawberry Trifle

This made a delicious LOW FAT dessert! I used fat free milk and sugar free pudding. Delicious and light. Husband loved it! Do have all your ingredients ready to go and then make the pudding because instant pudding sets up fast. I might try adding some chocolate syrup next time as well. Will definitely make again!

White Chili II

Reviewed on Oct. 10, 2008 by songgirl
I loved this recipe. It was very flavorful but way spicy for my taste, which is why I only gave it a 4. I don't know if I did something wrong since I didn't see any other reviews about it being too spicy but I will have to try again and see if I can tame the spicyness without losing the flavor. I did add two cans of white kernel corn and blended one can of beans to thicken it a little. Very yummy even if my lips are on fire.
